Have you ever been to a wedding at a city hall in the USA? It was my first time. New York is probably also a special case, since apparently more people get married here than in other places. I was there to photograph Mirjam and Benjamin’s wedding and arrived at City Hall on time, of course. There was just one little hiccup. No one knew about the wedding, it was all a big secret and so the two of them had also come to New York alone. Too bad it turned out that you need a witness in New York. So I was quickly promoted from wedding photographer to witness to the wedding. Wow, what an honor. How cool is that? I got to see up close how wedding work over in the States. My friend and helper Nikolaj compared it to the process of registering a car in Germany, which I thought was pretty fitting. Take a number, wait, stare at the announcement board, go to the desk, sign. Somewhat surreal, but also kind of awesome.
The two of them were dressed very stylishly and casually. I thought that fit really well with what we had planned. After the wedding, we made our way through New York without a real goal in mind, had a lot of fun and took photos. Too bad the sun was ruthless that day. The hunt for a bit of shade can really be harder than you think. Around noon we were beat and had to take a break at a pizzeria in Brooklyn before heading out again. I’ve rarely had such a cool wedding shoot. Everything fit perfectly. The couple was really relaxed and clearly in a great mood, and they were up for anything. I think you can really see in the pictures that they are loving life. I had a lot of fun. Thank you again for letting me be part of your wedding. And of course a great big “thank you” goes out to my tireless helper Nikolaj.
